Just one per cent of subscribers consume half of all downloaded data with the latest devices from Apple in particular fuelling demand for bandwidth-hungry mobile content.

Owners of Apple’s iPhone 4S, which launched in October, use twice as much data as the previous iPhone model given the increase in use of services like the virtual personal assistant Siri, according to a study into the data usage of devices in global mobile markets. IPhone 4S owners on average used three times as much as those with the iPhone 3G, which was used as the benchmark by the study.
